SunTrust Dickens of a Christmas 2014

December 5th

City of Roanoke's Christmas Tree Lighting

Sponsored by City of Roanoke, City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation Department and Downtown Roanoke, Inc., the tree lighting will be held on Salem Avenue at Wells Fargo Plaza on December 5th. The 500 handmade ornaments adorning the tree were created and donated by students and visitors of Art Venture at the Taubman Museum of Art. The ceremony with begin with a special performance by Hidden Valley High School Choir at 5:30pm. WSLS 10’s countdown to the tree lighting will begin at 5:45pm with the actual lighting at 6:20pm. Directly following will be Miss Mona's School of Dance performing at 6:30pm.

Haley Toyota's City of Roanoke Christmas Parade

Don’t miss this wonderful holiday parade! Downtown streets will be transformed into a magical space filled with costumed characters, horse drawn carriages, marching bands, and numerous community groups – all highlighting various holiday traditions. The parade route begins at the corner of Elm Avenue and Jefferson Street (Elmwood Park) and continues north on Jefferson Street to Campbell Avenue, then east on Campbell Avenue to Market Square. Sponsored by Haley Toyota, the City of Roanoke and Downtown Roanoke, Inc.

RVSPCA Pet Costume Contest and Coca-Cola's Snow Zone

The holidays aren’t just for humans! Dress up your pet(s) and come and join the fun and laughter at the annual SPCA Pet Costume Contest that will take place on Salem Avenue. This year’s event will be made special by the involvement and enthusiasm of the Roanoke Valley SPCA and their volunteers. Boxes will be decorated and ready to accept donations of pet food to benefit the SPCA’s Pets Eat Too program. Registration for the SPCA’s Pet Costume Contest begins at 6:00pm.

Dreaming of a white Christmas? Dream no more! It will be snowing in downtown – at least on the last night of Dickens! Bring your mittens and pull on that stocking cap and prepare to zoom down the ramp in this winter wonderland. The Coca Cola Snow Zone is guaranteed to delight even the grumpiest Scrooge!
