Cellar Door at the City Market to Celebrate Local Wineries-Introduces Thursday Evening Farmers Market
Downtown Roanoke, Inc. will kick off “Cellar Door at the City Market” on Thursday, September 8, 2011. The event will take place on Wall Street adjacent to the newly renovated Market Building downtown from 5pm until 8pm and will feature wine tastings from Fincastle Winery, Peaks of Otter Winery, Virginia Mountain Vineyards, and Villa Appalachia. Also in attendance will be Black Snake Meadery and Foggy Ridge Cider. Admission is $5 and includes tastings and a keepsake wine glass.
This event will be repeated on the second Thursday each month in October and November. Guests are encouraged to bring their souvenir glass and attend those events for only $1. IDs will be checked and wristbands will be provided for tasters 21 and over. Wine by the glass and bottle will also be available for purchase.
DRI will also introduce a temporary Thursday Evening Farmers Market featuring many popular vendors from the Historic Roanoke City Market. The Farmers Market will run from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Market Square; EBT and credit card sales will be accepted. “We hope that by pairing a Thursday Evening Farmers Market with our popular Cellar Door event we will provide maximum selling opportunities for our fantastic vendors” said Sean Luther, DRI’s President & CEO.
Downtown Roanoke, Inc. is a tax-exempt member organization first chartered in 1960 to provide services and support to downtown property owners, businesses and residents. DRI provides services throughout the Downtown Service District under a contract with the City of Roanoke and also manages the Historic Roanoke City Market which is the oldest continuously-operating open air market in Virginia.
