Sean Luther Announces Resignation from Downtown Roanoke, Inc.
Resignation to take effect Oct. 12; DRI begins search for next President & CEO
Roanoke, Va.– The Board of Directors for Downtown Roanoke, Inc. (DRI) announces the resignation of President & CEO Sean Luther effective Oct. 12. Luther leaves to pursue a new opportunity leading a project in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa. A search is currently underway to fill his position.
“Sean’s leadership and contributions have left a lasting mark on Downtown Roanoke,” says Curtis E. Mills, Jr. Chair of the Board of Directors. “Roanoke’s loss is truly Pittsburgh’s gain. Because of Sean’s efforts, we look forward to an exciting future. While we are sorry to see him go, we are confident that he is leaving us with the tools and enthusiasm we need to continue moving downtown forward. We wish him the best in his new position.”
DRI’s Board of Directors will name an interim President prior to Luther’s departure and will continue to operate business as usual, Curtis adds.
Luther joined DRI in 2009 as President & CEO, overseeing the organization and its finances and seeking to provide a strong return on investment to downtown property owners. Under his leadership, he and DRI staff have significantly refocused the organization’s commitment to economic development in Downtown Roanoke, providing support for residential development, strengthening relationships for downtown office brokers and property owners, and developing a robust recruitment strategy. Most recently, he has been instrumental in working with Roanoke City Administration and Roanoke City Council to expand the Downtown Service District to the Roanoke River.
