Finding Life in the Face of Death

One of a series of events for Roanoke Valley Reads (RVR) 2017.

Our signature event for 2017: Finding Life in the Face of Death. Keynote speaker: Dr.

Thomas Milam. A panel of hospice chaplains and patients. Dr. Thomas Milam, a psychiatrist with Carilion, and chaplains from two area hospices will be joined by hospice patients, discussing death and dying from a front-line and first-hand perspective in the Blue Ridge Literacy auditorium in the downtown Roanoke Main Library.

About the 2017 Read: This year the chosen book is the profoundly moving, award-winning When Breath Becomes Air by Dr. Paul Kalinithi. This book has touched thousands of lives, and we have arranged several wonderful gatherings for the public to attend. Each gathering focuses on themes from the book, themes of great meaning for all of us. We invite you to attend (every event is free), and to join in the community-wide discussion that is at the heart of our "Big Reads" efforts.

The Roanoke Valley Reads 2017 events do not require reading of When Breath Becomes Air, but will be enhanced by doing so.

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi can be purchased from Blue Ridge Literacy offices on the lower level of Roanoke Main Library or the usual places.
