Words3: Midwinter and Food for Thought

A reading series for writers of all genres and backgrounds, and listeners!

The format:

  • Original pieces of prose, poetry, songwriting, playwriting and film are welcomed in all genres, from writers of all backgrounds, professions and ages.
  • Pieces must be no longer than six minutes of reading time - a maximum of three poems, one per page, or three pages of prose, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point.
  • Submit your reading to Cara Modisett, caraemodisett@cox.net, along with a short (one-paragraph) bio.
  • We will have coffee and donuts (free!)
  • Everyone is welcome - these are public events, and we welcome and encourage listeners as well as readers!

Thank you immensely to the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra for hosting us in 2017 and to the Robert L.A. Keeley Healing Arts Program at Carilion Clinic for their sponsorship in 2017! We may well have some spinoff events this coming year at the RSO Green Room, so keep your eyes open.

Our new location is St. John's Episcopal Church in downtown Roanoke, on the corner of Jefferson and Elm. Park on the Elm Avenue side for best access.

This month's theme is MIDWINTER. Tackle it however you'd like - music, color, emotion, etc...

The new name comes from the Memphis, Tennessee series, which began in 2014 at Church of the Holy Communion (Episcopal) and continues there on a monthly basis. The original series, Writers at Liminal, was hosted by Community High School of Arts & Academics for several years prior to 2014.
