With the weather warming up and Summer just around the corner, you probably want to sit outside for your lunch break or happy hour. We've created an entire list of downtown outdoor dining options to help you find a new favorite spot. Whether you're in the mood for burgers, tacos, or chicken, there's something for everyone.  

Large Outdoor Dining Spaces

202 Social House - 202 Market St SE

202 Social House has ample outdoor seating where you can watch shoppers at the Farmer's Market. Grab some signature wings, a burger, or a flatbread. They also serve cocktails mocktails. Their beer and wine selection is extensive, too. 

Your dogs can come with you as long as they're leashed and well-behaved.

Beamer's 25 - 357 Salem Ave SW

Named after Virginia Tech's retired football coach Frank Beamer, this restaurant offers American favorites like burgers, fries, and milkshakes. Brunch and drinks can also be enjoyed on the large outdoor patio. 

You can bring your four-legged friend, just make sure they're on a leash.

Big Valley Barbeque - 120 Luck Ave

Big Valley Barbeque is one of Downtown Roanoke's newest additions. The menu is full of BBQ classics, like smoked brisket, ribs, and pulled pork sandwiches. Sides include mac and cheese, baked beans and coleslaw. They even offer dessert.

Leashed dogs are welcome on the patio.

Billy's - 102 Market St

Did you know that Billy's has a (somewhat) hidden outdoor courtyard? That's right! Enjoy brunch, cocktails, and refined American dinner cuisine in an outdoor setting adjacent to the Taubman Museum of Art.

With an abundance of seating and drink options, there's something for everyone.

Corned Beef & Co. - 107 Jefferson St

Downtown Roanoke's rooftop bar and restaurant is open for the season! Enjoy woodfired pizzas, sandwiches, and delicious cocktails under the strings of lights while overlooking Jefferson Street downtown. The outside space includes new deck furniture and an old Coca-Cola mural on one of the brick walls.

The rooftop has live music on Thursday nights from 8pm to 11pm. Grab a drink and unwind!

Crescent City Bourbon & BBQ - 19 Salem Ave SE

As the name suggests, Crescent City has bourbon, as well as whiskey, beer, wine, and signature cocktails. Enjoy a drink or some good ole BBQ out on the patio. Nestled between two buildings, the spacious patio has hanging lights, umbrellas, fans, and even outdoor heaters for cooler months.

Food Fanatics Kitchen - 551 Marshall Ave SW

Down near the Cotton Mill Lofts is a restaurant serving rustic Italian cuisine. Food items include grilled meats and fish, Wood-Oven Pizzas with hand-tossed dough, and house-made pasta.

There is plenty of outdoor seating at the back of the restaurant, and some additional tables near the front door. The bright red umbrellas will keep the sun off your face while you enjoy your meal.

The Hatch - 32 Market Sq SE

If you love chicken sandwiches and southern food done right, then look no further. The Hatch is a relatively new business that offers, you guessed it, chicken and some great sides like smashed potatoes.

The covered patio seating allows guests to have the experience of eating outside with coverage. The sides can be rolled up to let the breeze through. The string lights add to the vibe.

Hotel Roanoke's The Pine Room - 110 Shenandoah Ave NE

 The Pine Room's outdoor patios offer wonderful views of the Mill Mountain Star and the City Market Building. With string lights, umbrellas, cushions, and outdoor heaters, this space is the perfect spot to grab a drink or bite to eat. 

The Pine Room is simple yet sophisticated and has both snacks and entrees.

Scrambled - 32 Market Sq SE

Who doesn't love breakfast? The only thing better than pancakes and eggs is having them outside on the patio. This year-round patio has heaters to keep you warm and sides that roll up to keep you cool.

Tuco's Taqueria Garaje - 416 Salem Ave SW

Feast on savory tacos and margaritas on the patio this Summer at Tuco's. The restaurant serves tacos, burrito bowls, guacamole, and desserts. Drinks include specialty margaritas, cerveza (beer), wine, and cocktails. You can even stop by for weekend brunch. The patio awaits!

Breweries with Outdoor Seating

Big Lick Brewing Company - 409 Salem Ave SW

They have the largest outdoor area/beer garden in Downtown Roanoke featuring an outdoor stage for live music and numerous tables and benches for seating. Cornhole is always available. Plus, you can bring your furry friend along.

When it comes to food, pack your own or bring food from a nearby restaurant.

Golden Cactus Brewing - 214 5th Street SW

 Golden Cactus' vibrant and kid-friendly patio space includes picnic tables, a sand-box, space for cornhole, and a refurbished shipping container for lounging and selfies. FoodHut Rke is located on the patio and serves a variety of food, with a changing menu. The brewery and taproom are both pet friendly!

Starr Hill Roanoke Pilot Brewery & Side Stage - 6 Old Whitmore Ave

They have an outdoor shaded patio open every day where pets are welcome. Once a month they extend their outdoor space for Can Garden Weekends featuring canned beer and live music.

Pimento cheese and chips can be purchased at the brewery. You can also pack a picnic or order delivery from your favorite place. Moe's is right next-door, too.

Three Notch'd Craft Kitchen & Brewery - 24 Campbell Ave SE

Their kitchen specializes in creating locally-sourced, beer-infused dishes designed to complement the season as well as what’s on tap.

They have a small outdoor dining space on the sidewalk that's perfect for couples to enjoy the warm weather. Pets are welcome, too.

Condensed Outdoor Dining

A lot of our restaurants have smaller, condensed outdoor dining spaces. Usually, they're located on the sidewalks against the buildings. Some have two or three tables while others have more. Check out your options below!
